Mission Statement

The mission of the Juvenile Justice/Delinquency Prevention Commission is to advocate and protect the safety and well-being of dependent and delinquent youth as well as promote intervention and prevention services and programs in Sonoma County.

Mandate

Sections 225 through 231 of the California State Welfare and Institutions Code mandates the existence of a Juvenile Justice Commission in each county throughout the state.

The Commission consists of from 7 to 15 members appointed by the presiding judge of the Superior Court with the approval of the judge of the Juvenile Court. Two of these members can be youth members between the ages of 14 to 21.

Information

Currently the Sonoma County Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commission consists of 15 members, including one youth member. Commissioners’ professional backgrounds include therapists, attorneys, social workers, foster parents, parents, educational experts, law enforcement, and human service administrators.
